Butter goes inside the bell which you place inside the water-filled crock. The water inside the crock will create a seal which keeps oxygen from getting to your butter. Helping you always have fresh, spreadable butter without needing refrigeration.

Will my butter fall out of the bell?

No, your butter won't fall into the crock. Just make sure to tightly pack the softened butter into the bell. Test it out, shake it, you'll see it won't fall out.
